What is eLiquid: A look inside the bottle

What is eLiquid?

ELiquid is a substance generally made up of vegetable glycerin (VG), propylene glycol (PG), and food grade flavors. It is used to produce the vapor in vaporizers or electronic cigarettes. It simulates the smoking experience of analog (tobacco) cigarettes without inhaling the combustion (smoke) and inherent carcinogens contained in analog cigarettes.  eLiquid is to an eCig or vaporizer as "tobacco" is to an analog cigarette.

Many sites and stores including ours offer customers custom e Liquids with a choice for a specific type of PG/VG ratio. When I was first getting into electronic cigarettes and vaping I had no idea what PG, VG was let alone what type of ratio I preferred. The only thing I knew was that I needed something called e liquid to put into my CE4 (tank). I ended up ordering a flavor that was made of 100% PG (Propylene Glycol). My packaged arrived I put the e liquid into my CE4 and started to vape. To my surprise (and total displeasure) no smoke came out of my mouth, but strangely I could taste it. I instantly thought something was wrong. How could there be no vapor? It must be broken.  As someone who was just making the switch from analogs (def: "a tobacco cigarette") I needed to see vapor.

After doing a little bit a research I found out that the PG (Propylene Glycol) in eLiquid increases the "throat hit" (def: The feeling in the back of your throat that is best-known to the full-flavor menthol smoker), decreases vapor, and increases flavor which explained why I had experienced taste without feeling or seeing any "vapor"!  Vegetable Glycerin (VG) increases vapor volume but it decreases flavor, and has no throat hit.  The key to personal satisfaction in your search for the perfect eLiquid...is knowing what you are looking for...and then to search and hopefully find the company that produces the perfect eLiquid for you.

What's with all the eliquid ratios?

Finding the perfect ratio of e liquid depends greatly on what type of smoking experience you prefer. Generally most people purchase a 50/50 blend of PG to VG because you get a good taste and good smoke volume. If you looking for more flavor and throat hit then I recommend you go with a ratio that is 70/30 or 80/20 PG to VG. If you want a lighter smoke that is not harsh on the throat and you feel over powered by a 50/50 blend then I would recommend a ratio of 20/80 PG to VG. You can totally get away with pleasurably vaping at this ratio and still get good flavor and virtually no throat hit except whats created by the vapor cloud you're about to inhale.

Another thing that is super important to your vape experience is called "steeping."  Steeping eLiquid is similar to steeping a tea bag in a mug of hot water.  You simply let it sit.  To steep your eLiquid you take the cap off and let it sit under a lamp or during the day up on the window-sill.  The flavor you will experience in a newly mixed eLiquid isn't even close to the flavor you will experience 5-7 days later.  The eLiquid ingredients will "marry" the same way the ingredients in your homemade sauce or soup does as it cooks on the stove for a few hours.  You could eat it ten minutes after you put it all in the pot and warmed it up...but the flavor experience you will have a few hours later is fuller, richer and the way it was intended to be experienced. You may even need to allow some of your e liquids to steep for a week to two for that amazing taste to mature. You can read our full post on how to steep eliquid.

Finding the perfect ratio does require a little bit of trial and error and you will be surprised that some eliquids you may like at one ratio and others like tobacco blends may feel too strong at a higher PG ratio and you may want to soften it by increasing the vegetable glycerin (VG). You can stop by any one our brick and mortar locations in Arkansas to sample awesome flavors, or take the incredible knowledge you've gained from this post and pick up some of our eLiquid direct from our online store.

Arkansas eLiquid's are phenomenal and I would recommend (if you haven't already landed on the perfect ratio for you) to try them the way they were created by choosing "default". It's absolutely delicious, lingers long after one is finished vaping, has a great balance of vapor volume, throat hit, flavor and satisfaction.
